Muriel Alease MAHON

Muriel Alease Banks (nee Mahon) Muriel Alease Banks passed away on April 5, 2005 at the age of 75 years after a courageous battle with cancer. Muriel was born on July 25, 1929 in the village of Crow Lake, the daughter of Winnifred and Arnold Mahon. T he family moved to Hickson Avenue in Kingston where Muriel attended K.C.V.I. Upon leaving school she worked at the Kingston Tile Works, where she met her husband Claude Banks. They were married on May 7, 1947, and were blessed with six children. In 1 958 they moved to Perth Road and then purchased the family home in 1961 where she remained to this day. In 1963 Muriel went to work as a bread truck driver at Doyle's Bakery. She eventually moved into the office at the bakery and remained there for 2 2 years until the Bakery closed. After a few years of leisure she began working part time as the bookkeeper at Sunbury General Store. During the time that her children were growing up everyone called her mom. She always had an open door for friends a nd family. She had a heart of gold that showed in everything she did. She was a quiet woman but listened intently. She joined the Royal Canadian Legion Br #560 Ladies Auxiliary in 1969 and joined the Branch itself in 1972. Working tirelessly to raise money to help those in need. She was a Life Member of the Ladies Auxiliary and during her time there she was Sports Officer for 4 years, Recording Secretary for 2 years and Treasurer for 16 years, which she continued to do until she died. She was a strong supporter of the Kingston Poppy Campaign to which she was the Branch 560 Trustee. She held that position for 7 years devoting many hours and days to this cause. Muriel was an avid sports person. She loved hockey and baseball but loved to play darts. She belonged to the Kingston Ladies Dart League for 36 years. She was the Statistician for 4 years and captain of her own team for 23 years. Muriel was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Claude, 2 sons Michael and Doug, her father Arnold Mahon, a sister Helen Evans, a brother Horace Mahon and grandson Gerry Banks and son-in-law Harry Lee. She leaves behind a son Brian (Carol), and three daughters, Linda (Doug Baker), Connie (Mel) and Sharon (Bob). 12 Grandchildren - Doug Banks Jr. (A mie), Tracy Banks (Clare), John Banks, Angie Hammond (Darren), Kurtis Lee (Kelly), Kim Turcotte (Lonnie), Chris Hagerty (Jen), Chad Hagerty (Keri), Krista Martineau (Jamie), Kerry Hannigan, Tim Martineau, Laurie Kay. Great Grandchildren - Jessica Ban ks, Dylan, Jordyn, and Ryan Hammond, Taylor Tulk, Mikayla and Brayden Hagerty, Dean and Zarya Martineau, Cameron MacMillan, Zackary Hagerty. Funeral Services were held on Saturday, April 9, 2005 with interment at Glenhaven Memorial Gardens. Pallbeare rs were her grandsons, Doug Banks Jr., John Banks, Chris & Chad Hagerty, Kurtis Lee and Tim Martineau. We would like to take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt thanks to relatives, countless friends and neighbours for their countless acts of ki ndness during mom's illness and passing. The food, cards, floral tributes, charitable donations, and support will never be forgotten. Special thanks to Dr. Jefferies, Dr. Briceton and Bernie Cooperswaite from the Cancer Centre for your compassion and kindness during her stays in the hospital and countless phone calls. Thanks to Reverend Whiston for his kind words and comfort, Branches & Auxiliaries to Br. 560, #9 & #631 Legions for the Legion Service and donations. Thanks to Dwight and Janet Rit chie for the many meals they continually provided during the entire week. A very special thank you to Janet Ritchie for the beautiful poem she composed for mom - you truly caught her spirit.
