MAPPLEBECK, RETA - Reta Blanche Mapplebeck (nee Howe) passed away at her residence October 23, 2005 Loch Lomond Villa, after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late Eric Mapplebeck and daughter of the late Herbert and Margaret (Noddin) Howe. Reta worked in the City Market as a Clerk and later owner of Slocum and Ferris where her many customers appreciated her happy personality. On her retirement the then Mayor of Saint John "Elsie Wayne" presented her with a scroll nominating her "Honorary Deputy Market Clerk". Reta was a faithful member of Tabernacle United Baptist Church at Haymarket Square involved in many areas of God's work there. A member of the Choir, Sunday School, Mission Circle, social committee, also a life member of the U.B.W.M.U. After retirement she volunteered at "Hair Care" Saint John Regional Hospital receiving a pin of acknowledgement at that time. Reta has always been a kind and loving person even through many trials she always had a smile. Surviving are two sisters Mrs. Thelma Exkstrom and Mrs. Helen Fry; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by two brothers Owen Howe and Gordon Howe; sister Mrs. Grace Steeves; and infant siblings. Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road Saint John (646-2424) with visitations on Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held from Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday October 26, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery.
