Robert Frank Hallet November 17, 1929 - October 21, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Sands Funeral Chapel (Duncan) Born to Andrew and Jessie Hallet, Bob joined us in Bassano, Alberta on 17 November 1929. After several years on the farm, his family and sisters Betty, Wilma and Marjorie relocated to the East side of Shawnigan Lake, BC. After a period living in Victoria during WWII, they moved back to Shawnigan to the house behind the post office that was affectionately called the “Big House”. He spent summers picking apples, pears, walnuts and cherries and told colorful tales of meals with the boarders and cold, snowy winter nights huddled by the fire. Bob moved to Hornby Island at 18 to work in the logging camps. Here he met a young lady attending grade 13, and Ella Bos became his wife in 1950. They moved to Port Renfrew where he (logged/drove logging trucks) and enjoyed long rainy days with his (cousins and sisters). Here they had their oldest son, Larry (Teresa Mattin) and daughter Debbie. His family then moved to Comox, where Randy (Shannon Atkinson) and Shannon (Dale Halldorson) joined the family’s adventures. Patrick (Carrie Richardson) was born after the family moved south to Mill Bay. As Bob drove the logging roads of the Island, cruised his fishing boat and after retiring, spending hours in the shop mastering his craft of woodworking, his family grew and he became the proud grandfather of Kevin, Andrew, Dawn, Lindsay, Dean, Matthew, Amanda, Candace, Jaime, Stacie and Sean, recently meeting his first great-grandchildren, Jayden. He blessed the marriages of Kevin to Mo Runzer, Dean to Ashley Cox, Dawn to Mark Wettig and Lindsay to Spencer Poe. Wonderful memories of laughing, baseball, shop nights, family gatherings and stories by the fire will be held close in our hearts, Grandpa. Your quiet pride, courage and dignity are felt strongly by all the friends, family and community who enjoyed sharing you knowledge and contributions. We hold close the love you helped create and acknowledge your open, respectful and positive appreciation of life that will be carried by us all! We love you! Bob passed away peacefully at home on 21 October 2005. A Celebration of His Life will be held Saturday, 29 October 2005 at the Dennis McLean Room, Kerry Park Recreation Center, at 3:00 p.m. The Family extends a warm thank you to Dr. Kruger for his graciousness and kindness during this time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
