Elbert Ernest Coldwell October 23, 1924 - October 22, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Atlantic Funeral Home (Dartmouth) COLDWELL, Elbert Ernest - 80, Dartmouth, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 22, 2005, in Camp Hill Veterans' Memorial Building, QEII, Halifax. Born October 23, 1924, in Wolfville, he was a son of the late Clarence and Genesta (Coolen) Coldwell. Elbert married Margaret Ross on June 14, 1950, and they went on to enjoy 55 wonderful years together. He served 13 years at sea, including service with the Merchant Navy and was awarded several medals. He later retired from his career as a beloved instructor at the College of Fisheries, Memorial University, St. John's, NL. Elbert was very involved in the West End Baptist Church in St. John's, where, along with his son Brian, he was instrumental in the organization of camps for youth. Elbert and Margaret both have shared a great love of the province and people of Newfoundland, where they resided for 34 years of married life. He will be long remembered for his wonderful humour and dedication to service for others. Elbert was the loving husband of Margaret; father of Joy, Gregory (Sherry), and Brian, who predeceased his father in 1987, and was dearly loved by his grandchildren, Andrew, Ryan and Bethany. Arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, where family and friends are invited to celebrate Elbert's life from 7-9 p.m. today. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday in Stevens Road United Baptist Church, 2 Stevens Rd., Dartmouth, Rev. Dr. Robert Nickerson and Rev. Don Krouse co-officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. No flowers by request, rather a donation in Elbert's memory to West End Baptist Church, 314 Topsail Rd., St. John's, NL A1E 2B5 or Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, 5954 Spring Garden Rd., Halifax, NS B3H 1Y7, would be appreciated.
