Delta STEENE

CLEVELAND, Delta Steene Passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2005 at Kensington Gardens Long Term Care Home in Toronto at the age of 89. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her husband Harrison; her children John, Gordon (Sue), Janet (Alain); her grandchildren Tara (Dave) and Julia (Chris); her sister Joan (Jim) and sisters-in-law June (Stan, deceased) and Connie (Ross, deceased); as well as Eric, Margaret, Frances and all of Delta's nieces and nephews. Delta was born in Galetta, Ontario in 1916. She graduated from Queen's University in 1937 with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Mathematics. She worked first as a teacher, and then in the Personnel Division of the Navy, where she met Harrison who was a naval officer during the Second World War. They were married in 1943. Delta accompanied Harrison in numerous overseas postings with External Affairs including New York, Pakistan, Finland, Nigeria and Colombia, before finally returning to settle in Dunrobin, not far from her birthplace in the Ottawa Valley. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Kensington Gardens Long Term Care Home for their exceptionally devoted and loving care during the last year of Delta's life. A memorial service will take place on Tuesday, October 18th at 1:00 p.m. at Saint Mary's Church, 2574-6th Line Road, RR#1, Dunrobin, followed by interment at Old Saint Mary's cemetery (for directions to Saint Mary's, see www.magma.ca/%7Emarch/locations.html ) Afterwards, there will be a reception at the church.
