John Dueck January 08, 1924 - October 29, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Chapel Lawn Funeral Home Peacefully on Saturday, October 29, 2005, at the Grace Hospital John passed away with his family at his side. John is survived by his wife Gertrude (nee Braun), son, David (Sara), and daughter Ethel, 4 grandchildren; Joe, Nick (Jacqueline) and Megan. He is also survived by his extended family; Elsie (Ray) Zachary, Stella Fedosenko, and Ann (Prosper) Erauw, as well as 2 brothers-in-law, 5 sisters-in-law, many nieces, nephews and friends. John was predeceased by his father, Dietrich H. Dueck in 1958, and his mother Margareta (nee Funk) in 1967. John was born on January 8, 1924 in Mayfair Saskatchewan. He moved to Steinbach, Manitoba in the mid 1940's, later moving to Winnipeg where he met Gertrude, his wife of 52 years. John worked at Maple Leaf Construction for 39 years, retiring in 1989. In his retirement, John enjoyed the outdoors, working in his garden, fishing and bird watching. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. The family would like to thank the medical staff on the 3rd Floor North at the Grace Hospital for their excellent care. Viewing will take place on Tuesday, November 1 from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 2, at 10:00 a.m. also at Chapel Lawn with interment and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory may be made to Alzheimers Society or the Manitoba Lung Association.
