Susan "Sue" Cecelia Burke May 22, 1949 - November 02, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home * BURKE……Susan Cecelia “Sue”, age 56, of Halifax, formerly of Belmont, Hants County, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 2, 2005, with her family at her side. Born in Middleton, Nova Scotia, on May 22, 1949, she was raised in Wilmot, Annapolis County, the daughter of the late Arthur and Derina (Gaudet) Burke. Sue was an avid athlete, and had a special love of children, animals, music, camping, traveling, and reading. In 2003, Sue traveled to Kuwait to assume the high school principalship at the American Academy for Girls in Kuwait. Previously, she had been principal of Central Kings Rural High School (2001-03), and from 1998-2001, she was employed with the Nova Scotia Department of Education, as Coordinator of the Junior High School Network Project. She was a former teacher, vice-principal, and principal of Hants West Rural High School (1973-98). She graduated from Acadia University in 1973, with her B.Sc. and B.Ed. degrees, and later received her M. Ed degree in Special Education. She was a graduate of Middleton Regional High School. Sue served on the Board of Directors for the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation, was a member of the Hants West District Middle Level Education Steering Committee, the Nova Scotia School Administrators Association, the New England League of Middle Schools, the National Middle School Association, and the National Council of Staff Developers. She was a highly respected educator and an accomplished national and international speaker. Sue leaves a legacy of educational innovation that focused first and foremost on the learning needs of all students. She is survived by her spouse, Darlene E. Taylor; her siblings, Art (Susan), Tyler, Texas; Darlene, Ottawa/Kuwait; Dan (Gerry Pelletier), Halifax; Ray (Sue LeBel), Coldbrook; niece, Jenna (Florian Schuck) Morrison; nephews, Stephen (Ruth) Burke, Matthew (Kari) Burke, Callan (Kim) Morrison, Caleb Burke and Joshua Burke; great nephews, Charlie, Brodie, Ben and Patrick Burke; Adam Morrison. Cremation has taken place. Visitation 7-9 p.m. Friday, November 4; 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday, November 5, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. Funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, November 6, 2005, in the Windsor United Church, King Street, with Rev. Bill Gibson officiating, assisted by Cheryl MacDonald.
