Born on September 8, 1939, in Creemore, Ont., he was the eldest son of Isabel (Rutledge) and Reginald Brett. He was the beloved husband of 42 years of Marilyn Jean (Davidson), Harriston, Ont.; brother of Lorne (Lynn), Saint John, N.B.; Thelma (Jim Marrin), Bracebridge Ont., and Del (Janet), Bristol, England. As a developer, he established Piers Landing, Granbury Place and Water Mill Ridge condominium complexes in the Halifax area.
