John OLYNIK

John Olynik February 10, 1924 - November 04, 2005 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Olynik, after a brief illness. Johnny is survived by his dear wife Jean of 56 years; children and grandchildren, Brian (Susan), Jason and Brendan; Bruce (Gerdy), Michael, Marcie and Jennifer; Nancy Bishop (Corey), Kristin, Braden and Kailyn; and his sister Sophie Bizruchak; nieces, nephews and friends. Johnny was born in Winnipeg and raised in the North End. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force for three years in Bomber Command during the Second World War. He was very proud to be a veteran and to have served his country. He married his sweetheart Jean in 1949 and raised his family in East Kildonan. For over 50 years Johnny was a parishioner of Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church. He worked as an electrician at the Canadian National Railway for 33 years before he retired in 1985. Johnny loved to play darts and bowl, receiving many trophies which he proudly displayed. His family was his life. Johnny was always there to lend a helping hand whether it was to help build your garage or paint your deck. He was there when you needed him, especially and always, for his beloved Jean. Cremation has taken place. Johnny’s funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 9 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Eucharist Church, Watt Street at Munroe Avenue with Fr. M. Winn officiating. Inurnment to follow at Glen Eden Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Manitoba.
