Mrs. Helen Lydia Blaxland (née Hartlen) January 22, 1914 - November 08, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Atlantic Funeral Home (Dartmouth) BLAXLAND, Helen Lydia - 91, Dartmouth, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 8, 2005, in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Jeddore, she was a daughter of the late Burton and Lena (Cooper) Hartlen. Helen was always known as "Mom" or "Granny" to most and will be fondly remembered for her ginger cookies and her love of bingo, where she could be found playing at the Masonic Hall in Woodside. Helen's family and home always came first. She took great pleasure in watching "The Price is Right" and the "Dukes of Hazzard". Helen is survived by son, Calvin, Dartmouth; daughter, Juanita Roache, Dartmouth; brothers, Clarence Hartlen, Kingston, Ont.; Harris Hartlen, Avonport; Lloyd Hartlen, Lower Sackville; sisters, Etta (Charles Allen), Canning; Vivian Webber, Westphal; grandchildren, Robert, Ronald, and Ronda. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Frank Harris Blaxland; brothers, Tom Hartlen, Fulton Hartlen; sisters, Leodia Cole, Leontine Mitchell, Ethel Everette. Arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, where visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Friday, and where the funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Rev. Patricia Malin officiating. Interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
