Doris Matheson November 12, 1912 - November 14, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Jenkens Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre Mrs. Doris Matheson, aged 89 years, formerly of Thunder Bay passed away peacefully on November 14, 2005 at Copper Ridge Place in Whitehorse, Yukon. Doris was born in Thunder Bay and was raised and educated in Blake Township. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church. Doris met and married Joseph, her life-long companion, and it was here in Thunder Bay where she spent most of her life. In 1993 Joseph predeceased her and in 2000 Doris moved to Whitehorse, Yukon to be with her daughter Gayle and her son-in-law Ken. Doris enjoyed playing cards with friends and relatives, trying her luck at the casino and tending to her best friend Soley (her dog). As well, Doris would never let a day go by without watching The Price Is Right. Doris worked many years in the kitchen at the Royal Edward Hotel and later at Northwood High School helping students to learn the trade of cooking. Illness and her frail physical condition led her to her last home here on earth, Copper Ridge Place in Whitehorse. Predeceased by her parents Gustav and Jenny Strandberg, sisters Edna, Bertha and Betty and brother Robert. Doris will by sadly missed by daughter Gayle Crawford (Ken), grandsons Blaine Beer (Carrie) of Edmonton and Calvin Beer of Whitehorse. Also surviving are her sister Elsie Thompson (Jack) of Dobbinton and brothers Oscar Strandberg (Jenny) and Albert, both of Thunder Bay. Many nephews, nieces, other relatives and wonderful friends also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Doris Matheson will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Jenkens Funeral Home. Visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday evening from 7 – 9 p.m. at Jenkens Funeral Home. Memorial donations to a charity of choice would be appreciated.
