Walter Cizik January 23, 1934 - November 20, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Leyden's Funeral Home (Calgary) With heavy hearts we say goodbye to Walter William Cizik, whose spirit took wing on November 20, 2005. He will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered by his son, James (Maria Pires) Cizik; his daughter, Catherine (Murray) Miller and his grandson Jeremy Miller; his sister, Edna (Dennis) Gilbert and their family. He was predeceased by his parents, Karl and Martha Chizik, and his wife of 45 years, Rita Jean Cizik. Born in Calgary, Walt grew up in Medicine Hat, where his passions for hockey and music began. Over the years he later resided in Calgary, Saskatoon and Richmond, B.C. He had a long and satisfying career as a purchasing agent in the oil and gas, and mining industries, beginning in the early 1960’s with Stearns-Roger Engineering Co. Ltd. He loved his work and was still employed as recently as a year ago. All his life, Walt was active in sports…curling, ball, golf and hockey (playing semi-professional with the Okotoks Oilers back in the fifties). He enjoyed an annual fishing trip with his son, James, and in recent years never missed an opportunity to watch his grandson’s ball games. With guitar in hand and a circle of musical friends, he relished in a sing-out, especially of the old folk songs. He loved a good joke and told a great story! Walt truly treasured the time he spent with family and friends. With a big voice but a gentle heart, Walt will continue to live in our hearts and memories, leaving a bit of his goodness with each of us. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Walt’s name to the Alberta Lung Association P.O. Box 4500 Station South, Edmonton, AB T6E 6K2. A Celebration of Walt’s life will take place at Leyden’s Funeral Home, “Chapel of Remembrance,” 304-18th Avenue SW (on the corner of 17 Avenue and 2 Street SW), on Saturday, November 26, 2005 at 1:00 PM.
