Mark Wayborn July 01, 1953 - November 20, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Chapel Lawn Funeral Home It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Mark on Sunday, November 20, 2005. Left to remember him are his wife Betty, daughter Carmel, father Alex, brother Hart (Judy), and the Dyck family. He will be deeply missed by all his nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, neighbors and colleagues. Mark was predeceased by his mother Sara, and mother-in-law Tina. Mark was born in Winnipeg on Canada Day, 1953. He grew up in the north end, and attended Garden City Collegiate. During high school he worked at the City of Winnipeg with his older brother Hart. He went on to study Commerce at the University of Manitoba for a number of years, where he continually placed at the top of his class. After leaving university Mark traveled throughout Europe, and worked on a kibbutz in Israel. Upon returning he worked with his father at Furniture Villa and later, Wosks Ltd., where he was a successful salesman. It was during this time that Mark met his beshert (soul mate). Betty and Mark were married in 1980 at Beth Israel Synagogue, and were to celebrate their 25th anniversary in December. Mark loved his family more than anything else. Mark became ill in 1992, suffering a major depression which dramatically changed his life. He was able to return to work later as a part-time customer service associate at Wal-Mart, where he continued to work for 11 years. Mark was active with many organizations. He volunteered on the help line at the Mood Disorders Association of Manitoba, and was currently serving on their Board of Directors as Treasurer. A few years back he was honored to have an article published on the website of the U.S. National Depression Society. Mark was also active with the Independent Order of Oddfellows – Stonewall Lodge, serving as past president from 1998-1999. He was a proud member of the Asper Jewish Community Centre, volunteering annually for Folklorama and various community fundraising events. He enjoyed reading, and was always up to date on current affairs. His favorite pastime was running; he completed many half-marathons and road races. Other activities he enjoyed were cycling and rollerblading, traveling with his family, and attending services at Temple Shalom. Mark will always be known for his unique sense of humor and his ability to make people feel special. The family would like to say a special thank you to the doctors and staff in the psychiatric ward of the Victoria Hospital, as well as the many family and friends who offered their support in the last year, including the Oddfellows, MDAM, Wal-Mart, and Manitoba Public Insurance. We’d also like to thank the doctors and staff at the Health Sciences Centre who cared for Mark last January. If there were torments – then they voyaged toward you my white sail on course toward your dark night. Now, allow me to leave, let me go, let me go to bow on the shores of forgiveness. A memorial service was held Wednesday, November 23, 2005 at Temple Shalom. Internment followed at Temple Shalom’s section of Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Ave. Sincere thanks to Len Udow for carrying out the service.
