Jean Boyd (née Bradshaw) April 19, 1914 - November 24, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Chapel Lawn Funeral Home Born April 19, 1914 Mom passed away suddenly at her home at Rosewood village on November 24, 2005. Prior to her marriage to Wilbur Boyd on June 19, 1937, she worked as a nurse at the Children’s Hospital. In 1954, Wilb was transferred to Montreal with the CNR where the family lived for ten years. Returning to Winnipeg in 1964 when Dad became Regional Counsel, she became a tireless and dedicated volunteer at the Children’s Centre with the St. Agnes Guild, where she worked in the hospital gift shop. Her popular, hand-stitched sock dolls graced the cribs of many newborns. She was also very involved with the Book Market sale for several years. Everyone who knew her was touched by her lovely smile and sparkling blue eyes. She had a wonderful singing voice and leaves us with special memories of her singing while washing dishes or while Dad played the piano. She also loved to dance and could still do a pretty good shuffle step and kick her heels together in the air up until just a few years ago. She continued to be a formidable scrabble player even after her mind became foggy, and never let an opponent get away with anything. Mom also adored the prairie skies, sunshine and fresh air and always wanted to have the windows rolled down and the sunroof open even in the cool weather, as she “loved the feeling of the sun” on her skin. She was predeceased by her cherished husband, Wilbur, daughter Jo Ann, and brother Wellington, and is survived by her sister, Betty, daughters Linda, Julie and Alison and their spouses, grandchildren Mark, Kelly, Tami, Bud, Shelley, Meagan, and their spouses as well as eleven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. We are all grateful that she got to spend more time with her family in the past three years. As her keychain proclaimed, she was a classy lady who never complained and was always gracious and stylish. In her final weeks she frequently spoke of how wonderful her life had been and said that there was absolutely nothing she would have changed. That is a great legacy for those of us who will miss her and will celebrate her life on Wednesday, November 30 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, at 3:00 p.m. Mom would also want us to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Cedar House in the Rosewood Village for their excellent for the past three months.
