Reverend Dr. Roy Kenneth Holm May 04, 1936 - November 25, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Regina Funeral Home REVEREND DR. ROY K. HOLM – On Friday, November 25, 2005, Roy Kenneth Holm, beloved husband, father, brother, Papa, passed away into the loving arms of his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, with his family at his side. Left behind to treasure his memory is his beloved wife and best friend Maxine (nee Baase) and their children, Sherri (Ron) Russell - Shawne and Amron; Debra (Don) Lewis, Brigette and Brandi (in heart); Gina Holm - Matthew, Mark, Andrew and Celine; Michael Holm - Braden; and David Holm. He will also be greatly missed and remembered by his sister, Betty Crosby; sister-in-law, Marion Holm; mother-in-law, Helen Baase, sister-in-law, Marilyn (John) Carter; brother-in-law, Robert (Marlene) Baase; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, as well as his family in Christ. Roy was born in Palmer, Nebraska on May 4, 1936, to Bruno and Elizabeth Holm. He graduated from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri in 1960, and vicared at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in New Westminster, BC where he and Maxine were married on June 26, 1960. They began their life together in Saskatchewan where Roy was assigned to serve the parishes of Estevan, Midale and Outram, SK. He served as president of the Manitoba and Saskatchewan District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, now known as the Central District, Lutheran Church-Canada, from 1978 until June 2000. Roy was instrumental in the forming of Lutheran Church-Canada (LCC). He has served as secretary and vice president of LCC; on the Board of Regents of the Edmonton and St. Catharines Seminaries and Concordia University College of Alberta in Edmonton; secretary of the International Lutheran Conference; Board of Directors of Canadian Lutheran World Relief; and Lutheran Council in Canada. He has been active in community service both in Estevan and for the Province of Saskatchewan. Roy received the Doctor of Divinity degree from Concordia Lutheran Seminary, Edmonton, AB in 1989. In recent years he was the chairman of the Board of Regents, Concordia University College of Alberta, Edmonton, AB and chairman of the Council of Presidents, Lutheran Church-Canada. Currently he was serving as a director on the Board of Canadian Lutheran World Relief; L.A.M.P. (Lutheran Association of Missionaries and Pilots); the Lakeshore Tennis Club Board; and the local Cancer Unit Board. Until early November he was serving as interim pastor for two congregations – St. Luke’s Lutheran, Ogema and Celebration Lutheran, Regina. Our beloved Papa has gone to his heavenly home to join his parents, Bruno and Elizabeth Holm, his brother, Walter Holm, his father-in-law, Carl Baase, his sister-in-law, Karen Stevenson, and his brothers-in-law, Donald Dore and Louis Crosby. Many thanks to the Allan Blair Cancer Clinic, the Palliative Care Unit at the Pasqua Hospital, Dr. Morris, Dr. Chal Chal, and Dr. Clein, the angel nurses, and all involved in Roy’s care over the past five years. A public MEMORIAL SERVICE, giving thanks to God for the blessing of having Roy in our lives, will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2005, at 7:00 p.m. at Celebration Lutheran Church, 3130 Renfrew Crescent East, Regina, SK. A family interment will be held at Riverside Memorial Park. As a legacy to Roy, contributions can be made to Lutheran Church–Canada Missions (Roy and Maxine Holm Endowment Fund), 3074 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB; the Palliative Care Foundation Inc, Allan Blair Cancer Clinic, 4101 Dewdney Avenue, Regina, SK S4T 7T1 or a charity of your choice.
