Rabbi Powell, David R., Ph.D. Following a courageous battle with esophageal cancer, on November 6, at the age of 73. Will be dearly missed by children Marie (Andrew), Michael (Lois), Simone (Kevin), and Rebecca, grandchildren Jamie, Rachel, Sydney, and Zachary, as well as many other family and friends. Rabbi, teacher, counsellor, public servant, professor, father, grandfather, friend, with an active social interest, David was proud to serve most recently as chair of the Citizens Advisory Committee (Ottawa Parole Office) for Correctional Services Canada, as well as the World Congress for Religion and Peace. A funeral service will be held on November 8 at 1 p.m., at the Jewish Memorial Chapel, 1771 Cuba Avenue, Ottawa. Interment will follow at the Jewish Community Cemetery, Osgoode. Shiva will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice at May Court.
