ROY, Anthony Hector "Tony" (P. Eng.) - 76, Fernwood Drive, Antigonish. Tony passed away peacefully, Friday, January 23, 2004, in Halifax. Born in Jacquet River, N.B., he was a son of the late Jane (Grant) and Hector Roy. He graduated from St. Francis Xavier University, class of '51, with a B.Sc., Honours in Physics. In 1954 he was awarded his Bachelor of Engineering in mechanical engineering at TUNS as well as winning the Alumni Medal for leadership, scholarship, and personality. He was the recipient of the Athlone Fellowship, which sent him to England where he became a student engineer at C.A. Parsons & Co. Ltd. After obtaining his Certificate of Apprenticeship in 1956, he was awarded his Master of Science degree in thermodynamics by the University of Birmingham, England. He returned to Antigonish as associate professor and consulting engineer at St. Francis Xavier University. Following two years in Montreal with Lemieux, Trebault and Associates he returned to Antigonish in 1965 to establish his own business, A.H. Roy and Associates Ltd. Amongst his many professional achievements, he was past president of the Association of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia and was awarded an honourary life membership in 1996, and past president of St. Mary's River Association. Tony, an avid fly fisherman, could often be found in the pools of the St. Mary's and Margaree Rivers. He is survived by his wife, Ellen (MacDonald), having just celebrated his 50th Anniversary on December 28, 2003; also by daughters, Mary Ann (Jim Mah), Port Harcourt, Nigeria; Cynthia, Antigonish; Estelle (Francis Overmars), St. Andrews; Angela (Glenn), Brierly Brook; Ellen (David MacEachern), Calgary; Lise, Antigonish; sons, Donald (Anita), Antigonish; Philip (Abu Dhabi, U.A.E); 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; brother, Lionel (Jenny), Bathurst, N.B.; sisters, Violet (John), Dalhousie, N.B.; Marcella (Quent), Omemee, Ont.; Hectorine (Louis) Boileau, Que.; Valerie (Donald), Point Verte, N.B. He was predeceased by brothers, Larry and Germain; sisters, Janet, Noella, Rose Marie and Anne Marie. He was cared for by the dedicated and compassionate doctors and nurses on 5B at the VG Site, QEll, Halifax. He will be sadly missed by family, friends and his staff at A.H. Roy and Associates Ltd. Visitation from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today and 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 27, in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St., Antigonish. Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 27, in St. Ninian's Cathedral, Antigonish. Rev. Ray Huntley officiating. Reception to follow in St. Ninian Place. Burial in the parish cemetery.
