Donald Talmadge FENWICK

FENWICK, DONALD TALMADGE - Donald Talmadge Fenwick was born Nov. 17, 1915 in Saint John, NB; eldest son of the late Edna Pearl (Wasson) and the late Talmadge Spicer Fenwick. He received elementary schooling there, and secondary education at Rothesay Collegiate School. He attended Kings College and Dalhousie University, and later Acadia University where he received B.A. and B.Ed. Degrees. In 1937, he married E. Muriel Nonnenman, daughter of Anna (Erwin) and William Nonnenman. He owned and operated a farm at Quispamsis while working for T.S. Fenwick Ltd. After the birth of their first son, Peter, he returned to university. Upon graduation, he became Principal of Gaspé Intermediate School, PQ. He served in the Armed Forces from 1941 to 1946 in C.O.T.C. and as an Officer in 62nd (R) Gaspe Field Battery, R. C.A. He founded Gaspe Intermediate Cadet Corps. In 1946, he became an Instructor of World War II Veterans in the Canadian Vocational Training School, Pictou, and NS. A member of the St. Johns Ambulance Brigade, Amherst, he served on an ambulance in Springhill during the 1958 Disaster. He received the St. John Ambulance Medallion in 1961 and Bar in 1962. During his thirty-five years as a teacher, he was principal of schools in Alberta and Nova Scotia as well as Vice-principal of River Hebert District High School for seventeen years. He was an Army Cadet Instructor and attended many Summer Camps at Camp Aldershot, chiefly as an Instructor of St. John Ambulance First Aid. He was a member of King Edward Lodge No. 86 A.F. & A.M. for more than forty years and in 1990 he was Worshipful Master of the Lodge. He played Rugby for R.C.S., Kings College, and Acadia University. He was a former Warden of St. Albans Anglican Church, River Hebert. He was predeceased by his wife Muriel and his sister Marion. He is survived by his sons, Peter (Madeleine) Grand Bay-Westfield NB; Jeffrey (Colleen) Lower Sackville, NS; and Bruce (Sheila) Calgary, Alberta. and one sister Barbara Zwicker (Peter) Saint John, NB; and two brothers: Kenneth Fenwick (Jean) Rothesay, NB; and George Fenwick (Paula) of Spencer's Island, NS; ten grandchildren, a number of great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Donald's memorial service will be held the Cumberland Memorial Chapel on Friday January 7th, 2005 at 11am with Father Frank Likley officiating. Donald's family will receive friends at Furlong's Funeral Home on Thursday evening January 6th, 2005 between 7-9 pm. Burial will take place at a later date at Fernhill Cemetery, Saint John, N.B.
