BARLOW, Gladys A great lady passed away on January 2, 2005. Gladys Eleanor Wesley Allchin Barlow was in her 88th year and lived a wonderful healthy life until a few months ago. Born in Windsor, Ontario she was the daughter of the late Percy and Lottie Wesley. She graduated from Patterson C.I. and worked at the C.H. Smith Department Store in Windsor. In 1940 she married Phillip James Allchin (1952) and in 1957 she married James W. Barlow (1999). She was the greatest mom to Harlene Annett (the late Dr. Robert Annett) of Peterborough, Phillip George Allchin (Dorothy) of Oakville, James F. Barlow (Ruth) of Kitchener, Anne Rea of Boynton Beach, Florida and Gail Gulas (Bob) of Hamilton, Ontario. She was a very much adored and beloved grandmother to Christine Annett of Peterborough, Mark Annett of Minnetonka, Minnesota, Susan Barlow of Vancouver, B.C., Brian Barlow of Toronto, Jennifer and Christopher Allchin of Oakville, and Robert Wheeler (Sarah) of Hamilton. Great grandsons are Alex and Greg Wheeler.Glady and Jim moved from Windsor to the Havelock area in 1987 and enjoyed many years of retirement at their cottage on Belmont Lake and playing Bridge with their friends. For the past 5 years Glady found a new career teaching Bridge at the Seniors' Centre in Havelock. Her other joys in life were her gardens, plants, knitting, and her family. Resting at The Brett "Havelock" Chapel (705-778-2231) Tuesday, January 4th 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. with service on Wednesday, January 5th at 10:30 a.m. officiated by the Rev. Dr. Don Misener. Cremation and interment at Rosemount Cemetery in Peterborough. Special thanks to all the VON nurses who helped care for Glady in her last days and a huge thank you to daughter Anne who came home from Florida in the middle of the winter to be her mom's personal nurse for the past month. In lieu of flowers charitable donations may be made in memory of Gladys Barlow to the Robert Annett Scholarship c/o Development Department, Trent University, 1600 West Bank Dr., Peterborough, Ontario K9J 7B8 or to the Learning Disabilities Association of Peterborough, Suite 204, 159 King St., Peterborough, Ontario.
