Evelyn "Toots" Mary Kernachan (née Britton) May 21, 1924 - January 06, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Sands Funeral Chapel (Duncan) Passed away peacefully January 6, 2005 at the Chemainus Health Care Centre. She was predeceased by her dear husband, Dugie, on May 23, 2004. Also predeceased by brothers Tom, John and Bob, and sisters Ada and May. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Dan (Janet), Linda (Keith) and Rob (Nancy); grandchildren Dug (Jenn), Robyn (Nathan), Matt, Dave, Robbie and Eric; great-grandchildren Jill, Charlotte and Will. As well by many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends. Toots was born to Jack and Ada Britton, of Victoria, B.C., on May 21, 1924. She was the youngest of 6 children. Early in her life, the family moved to Parksville where she grew up, went to school, and met the love of her life, Dugie. They were married September 14, 1946, moved to Chemainus, built the family home and raised their three children. Toots was active in her community and always had a bright smile for everyone. Her positive, cheerful outlook on life was a wonderful role model to all who knew her. We will miss her so much, but she is with her Dugie, together, forever. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Archdekin and the nurses and staff at the Chemainus Health Care Centre for their comfort and care. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Chemainus United Church, 9848 Willow Street, on Friday, January 21, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow. Flowers are gratefully declined. In memory of Toots, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
