Mr Aloysius Joseph Bates Funeral arrangements by V J McGilivray Funeral Homes (Glace Bay) Aloysius "Wishy" Bates, age 73 of Dominion, passed away after a courages battle with illness, on Tuesday January 11, 2005 in the Glace Bay Health Care Complex. Born in Glace Bay he was the son of the late Jerome and Christine (MacInnis) Bates. Mr Bates was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces and served overseas in the first contingent of the medical Corp. in Egypt. After the armed forces he was employed with the Community Hospital, Glace Bay and later with Devco medical Unit at #26 Colliery. He was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #3, Glace Bay. He will be sadly missed by son, Michael (Janice), daughters, Donna (Charlie), Kathleen (Simon) Fowler, Eileen (Robert) Richardson, sister, Carmeline MacDonald, four grandchildren, Billy Joe, Michelle, Dwayne and Brittany, three great granchildren, Tylor, Brandon and Haley. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by an infant son, John Derrick, brother, William, sister, Mary Morrison. In honoring Aloysius' request, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Saturday 10 a.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. Fr. Jim Oliver will be officiating. Interment will be held at a later date.
