Charles Douglass MITCHELL

Charles Douglass Mitchell 1918 - 2005 Charles Douglass Mitchell, of St. George St., Moncton, passed away at The Moncton Hospital on Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at the age of 86. Born in Gunningsville, he was the son of the late Douglass R. and Maude H. (Dunham) Mitchell. He lived in Halifax until moving to Moncton in 1965. He was retired from car management at C.N.R. in Moncton and Halifax. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church in Riverview of which he was a member in the choir for many years. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge F.& Am, Burns Lodge #10 in Halifax, a member of the Barbershop Quartet in Moncton, member of the American Federation of Musicians, a veteran of WW II with the Halifax Rifles Regiment from 1939-1945 and was a speaker for organ donation and transplant awareness groups. He is survived by his wife, Orva (Keep) Mitchell; daughters, Carol Ann Coulter (Gary) of Mount Brydges, ON, Margaret "Peggy" Arkinson (Archie) of Montreal, PQ; step-daughters, Ellen Smith (Kim) of Riverview, Dennise Matheson (John) of Australia; son, Charles "Ted" Mitchell (Joni) of Halifax, NS; step-son, John Parkes (Chantel) of Toronto; sister, Colleen Henderson (Bill); five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, several step-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret Allison O'Brien in 1979; sisters, Mildred Glowka, Jean Cochrane, Annie MacDonald, Marion Powell, Marjorie Cann; brother, Robert "Bob" Mitchell and a step-daughter, Susan Killam. With no visitation by the family's request, a funeral service will be held at St. Paul's United Church, 404 Cleveland Ave., Riverview, NB on Sunday, January 16, 2005 at 2:30 pm. Interment will be in Camp Hill Cemetery, Halifax in the spring. Donations may be made to Friends of the Moncton Hospital "Pediatric Unit" or to memorial of the donor's choice.
