STAIRS, VERNA EVELYN Verna E. Stairs, formerly of Temperance Vale, widow of Sterling A. Stairs, passed away Thursday evening, Jan. 13, 2005 at York Manor. Verna was born at Temperance Vale in 1910 and was the last surviving member of the family of Ezra and Mary (Clark) Pike. She was a member of the Temperance Vale Baptist Church. She is survived by three daughters, Stella Corey (Vernon), Temperance Vale, Jean McVicar (Neil), St. George and Carole Drost (Ivan), Fredericton; two sons, Neil Stairs (Rosalee), Fredericton and Wendell Stairs (Bernita), Fredericton; a daughter-inlaw, Harriet Stairs, Lakeville Corner; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Verna was predeceased by her husband in 1968; a son Merlin Stairs in 1997; three sisters, Jessie Dunham, Beulah Kinney and Julia Fox; three brothers, Rev. Daniel Pike, George Pike and Fraser Pike and a son-in-law, George Trail. Resting at Flewelling Funeral Home, 585 Otis Drive, Nackawic with visiting hours Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held from the funeral home chapel on Sunday, January 16, 2005 at 2 p.m. Pastor David Carter officiating. Interment will be later at Otis Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, George Trail, Stephen Trail, Gary Trail, Andrew Kelly, Matt Stairs, Tim Stairs, Greg McVicar, Danny McVicar and John Harding.
