Merle Arlene Smith Merle Arlene Smith, 87, of Moncton who recently had been living with her daughter, Florence of River Glade, passed away Friday, January 21, 2005 at The Moncton Hospital. Born May 23, 1917 in Norton she was the daughter of the late Hartley and Sarah Jane (Roberts) Keirstead. First and foremost a homemaker, later in life she was employed as a janitor at Harrison Trimble High School, and had worked as a housekeeper for Dr. Layton, the Straton Family, and Dr. Fitch, as well had worked at Avard's Bakery and the Windsor Hotel. She is survived by children, Eurilla Lounsbury of Petitcodiac, Phyllis Horn (Dirk) of Lakeville, Mildred Richards (John) of Glenvale, Florence Carll of River Glade, Mabel Leaman of Steeves Mountain, Kaye Gourley of Moncton, Myrna White of Salisbury, George Smith Jr. of Moncton, Dora May Lainey (Leonce) of Shediac, and Mary Collette of Notre Dame; sister, Florence Taber of Sussex; brother, Merritt Keirstead (Alma) of Riverview; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, George E. Smith; daughter, Shirley; sons, Kenneth and Esley. Resting at Armstrong's Funeral Home, Petitcodiac with visiting hours on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. The Funeral Service will be held from the River Glade Baptist Church on Monday, January 24, 2005 at 1pm, Pastor D. Howatt officiating. Burial will be held in Pioneer Cemetery at a later date.
