Norman "Norm" Edward Pickrem October 11, 1956 - January 24, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Atlantic Funeral Home (Halifax) PICKREM, Norman Edward "Norm" - 48, Halifax, passed away suddenly Monday, January 24, 2005. Born October 11, 1956, in Halifax, he was a son of the late Harry and Roulfine (Hess) Pickrem. Norm owned and operated Norm's Garage in Halifax and had been a larger than life presence there for over a decade. Norm's two passions in life were his family and cars. He was a mainstay in the Maritime drag racing scene for many years. In addition to being an avid racer and antique car collector, he was perhaps best-known as the voice of the Cape Breton Dragway. Anyone who had the pleasure of meeting and knowing Norm knew what a genuine and kind man he was, who lived life to the fullest. Norm is survived by and will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 26 years, the former Susan Joy Rushton; daughters, Kelly (Stephen) Cogswell, Laura, Katie; son, Mark; grandchildren, Madeline, William; sisters, Ruth, Faye; brothers, Fred, Eric. Arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax, where the family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today. Family and friends are invited to a service of memorial 2 p.m. Thursday in West End United Baptist Church, corner of Quinpool Road and Preston Street, Halifax, Rev. Jerome MacDonald officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Family flowers only.
