Bernard Alan (Bernie) McKinley Bernard Alan (Bernie) McKinley of Riverview, a well known real estate agent, community volunteer, loving husband, father and grandfather died at The Moncton Hospital on Wednesday, January 26, 2005 following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born August 5, 1940 in Moncton, NB, to Hannah Bernice (O'Connor) and the late Elmer McKinley. In almost four years since he was diagnosed with liver cancer, Bernie never missed an opportunity to work hard for the Canadian Cancer Society in their efforts to find a cure. He was one of the key instigators and organizers of the first 24 Hour Cancer Relay for Life held at Centennial Park. Despite his ever weakening condition, he was also a faithful participant and an inspiration to his family and friends and all who worked with him. With a heart as big as the great outdoors which he loved to the end, Bernie pursued a sales career throughout the various stages of his life, his last firm affiliation being with Century 21, but his family always came first. In his little spare time, he loved to fish, grow a garden, and enjoy a great conversation with the many friends who sought his good-natured company. He loved a good story, and was very active throughout the years within the local Liberal Party Association. He was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Riverview, and though he never talked much about religion, his deep and profound faith kept his spirits positive even in his final days. He loved Irish music and his wife's great cooking. He always found a way to bounce back whenever life knocked him down. Besides his mother, Bernice McKinley of Riverview, he is survived by his wife, Martha (Glynn); three daughters Joan Belliveau (Terry) of Lower Coverdale, Peggy Vautour (Marc) of Moncton and Lynn Simkins (Dwayne) of Weldon; a son, Peter McKinley (Paula) of Riverview; eleven grandchildren; one brother Clayton McKinley of Edmonton; three sisters, Phyllis McKinley, Edith Robb (Bill) both of Riverview and Mabel McKinley of Moncton, as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held from the Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, 5 Fatima Drive, Riverview on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Parish prayers and remembrances will take place at the church on Friday evening at 8:30 PM. The funeral mass will be held from the Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, January 29, 2005 at 10:00 am, with Father Jeff Doucette officiating. The interment will be held in Alderwood Cemetery, Riverview at a later date.
