Edward (Ned) Lockhart McCarthy TORONTO, ON - Edward (Ned) Lockhart McCarthy peacefully passed away, at Toronto East General Hospital on Monday, January 31, 2005 in his 90th year. Born in Sidney Mines, N.S. March 26, 1915, he lived many years in Moncton, N.B. and later Toronto. Dedicated and loving husband of Evelyn, loving father of Jean and Linda. He will be sadly missed by grandchildren Martin, Alexandra, Christopher, Kelly and Kevin and great grandchild Jenna. Dear brother of Eileen Orpen, fondly remembered by Colin, Andrew and Steven, loved and respected father-in-law of Ken and David. All have been blessed with his steadfast love and example. During WWII, Ned served in the RCAF as a pilot instructor, Squadron Leader, Base Commander and acting Wing Commander. Ned worked for Eatons for 42 years beginning his career in Moncton as Merchandise Control Manager for the Maritimes, transferring to Head Office in Toronto in 1971. Although retiring in 1976, he maintained close ties with the many friends he made during this period. Throughout his life, Ned was an active participant in community life, a man of endless integrity and generous spirit. He was a dedicated member of the Gyro Club for 47 years and involved in many charities. He was an accomplished curler reaching the New Brunswick Provincial finals in 1952 and an enthusiastic golfer being an active member of Moncton, Scarboro and later Spring Lakes Golf Clubs. Ned had various hobbies, he was an accomplished photographer, carpenter, a philatelist, and he also made his own wine, which was in great demand by family and friends. Ned always had a positive outlook on life and could be relied upon for an anecdote or quip to brighten the day. A heartfelt thanks to Dr. McMillan and the dedicated staff of Toronto East General Hospital for their wonderful care and support. The family will receive friends at The Simple Alternative Funeral Centre, 275 Lesmill Rd, North York (416-441-1580) on Friday, February 4, 2005 from 6 o'clock.
