GILLELAND, Alice Catharine, of St. Catharines, passed away at the St.Catharines General Hospital, January 27, 2005. Born June 11, 1912 of a pioneer St. Catharines area family, Frederick B. Gilleland and Dagmar Gilleland. Alice attended Woodland Scho ol and St. Catharines Collegiate. She received her teacher training at the Hamilton Normal School and began teaching in 1931 at the age of 19 at McArthur School in Port Dalhousie, and in 1954 became the first principal of Gracefield School, where she remained until her retirement in June 1972. Long time member of St. Paul St. United Church, where she served on numerous committees locally and at the presbytery level. Predeceased by parents, her brother and sister-in-law Allan B. Gilleland (Margar et Jean). She is survived by niece Nancy Cummer and family of Langruth, Manitoba, cousins in Ontario and in the USA, her dear friend Elizabeth Jenner and many other caring friends. No visitation. Cremation has taken place. Funeral will be held on Mon day, January 31, at St. Paul St. United Church, 366 St. Paul St., St. Catharines at 1 p.m. Those who wish may make a memorial donation to St. Paul Street United Church Memorial Fund.
