Mr. Joseph "Joey" Michael McVarish March 24, 1981 - February 10, 2005 Funeral arrangements by V J McGilivray Funeral Homes (Glace Bay) JOSEPH MICHAEL “JOEY” MCVARISH 1981 – 2005 GLACE BAY / EDMONTON It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Joey McVarish age 23 of Glace Bay. Joey passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 10, 2005 at his residence in Edmonton, Alberta of natural causes. Born in Victoria, B.C. he was the son of Terry and Patricia (Nolan) McVarish, Glace Bay. Joey will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. As a boy growing up in Glace Bay he participated in all aspects of sports. Joey graduated from Glace Bay High School in 2000. He went on to successfully complete basic training in St. Jean, Quebec in 2001. Joey then decided to complete a plumbing coarse at Marconi Campus. He was a member of the United Association of Plumbers and Steamfitters where he became a proud member of Local 682. Joey was a formerly employed at Cape Breton Independent Living Association and Superior Trenching. He currently was employed fulltime with D Line Construction of Edmonton, Alberta. Joey will be sadly missed by his loving parents, Terry & Patricia McVarish, sisters, Shannon (Cleveland) Panting, Vancouver, Alison (Aston) Crawley, Middle Boro, Cheryl McVarish, Mississauga, Ont., Ann Marie Michael, Reserve Mines, aunts & uncles, Florence & Tommy Tompkins (Godparents), Glace Bay, Frances & David Nolan, Mississauga, Ont., Alison & Steve Gillis, Glace Bay, Cathy & Gordon Hann, Glace Bay, Fred & Shauna Nolan, Georgetown, Ont., John and Arlene McVarish, Glace Bay, Mike & Sherylyn Nolan, B.C., Darrel & Bev McVarish, Sydney, Joanne Milly, Ottawa, Ont. Joey was uncle to Samantha & Jacob McVarish, Mississauga, Ont., Garrett McVarish Crawley, Middle Boro, Anna & Brandon Penny, Glace Bay and Michelle & Arron Gillis, Glace Bay. Joey greatly loved his cousins, Shauna (Sandy) Penny, Glace Bay, Chris & Scott Tompkins, Glace Bay, Jason Hann, Mississauga, Ryan & Nancy Nolan, Georgetown, Tamara & Marc Nolan, Paul Gingra, Edmonton, Greg McVarish, Glace Bay. Joey was a people person and had so many friends. It would be difficult to mention everyone, but you know who you are. Joey will be widely received by his grandparents, Anna & Alfred Nolan, Mary & Greg McVarish, granduncle, Dit McKenzie and grandaunt, Judy Deigan. Visitation for Joey McVarish will be held Tuesday 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. Funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday at 2 p.m. in St. Anthony’s Church, Glace Bay. Fr. Peter LeBlanc will be officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in the parish cemetery. Donations in Joey’s memory may be made to St. Anthony’s Cemetery Fund or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
