Peter COLTON

Peter Colton MIRAMICHI, NB - Mr. Peter Colton, husband of Marjorie (Dutcher) Colton, of Miramichi, NB, passed away at the Halifax Infirmary on Saturday at the age of 73 following a sudden illness. Born in Brokenhead, Manitoba, Peter was the son of the late Nicholas and Marie Colton. He was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces and served a tour in Europe with NATO. He retired after 32 years of service as a Warrant Officer. Following his retirement from the armed forces, he worked for a number of years as Commissionaire for NBCC heavy equipment training centre in Miramichi. Peter attended St. Andrew's Anglican Church in Miramichi and served as a Diocesan Layreader for many years. Mr. Peter Colton first joined the Masonic Lodge in 1966 in Belgium. He affiliated with Miramichi Lodge #18 F & AM in Chatham, NB from Hiram Lodge #14 in Courtney, BC in 1988, going on to be Worshipful Master in 2000. He was a Past First Principal and Past District Deputy of Mount Lebanon Chapter #5 Royal Arch Masons in Chatham, Past First Grand Principal of Royal Arch Masons of NB, a member of Ivanhoe Perceptory #36 Knights Templar in Moncton, NB, a member of Luxor Shriners in St. John, NB, a Past Patron of Prince Charles #27 Order Of The Eastern Star, and Past Grand Patron of The Order Of The Eastern Star in NB. Besides his wife, Peter is survived by one son, Terry (Denise) of Quispamsis; daughter-in-law, Joyce of Chalk River, Ont.; one sister, Anne Krowchuck of Winnipeg, Man.; two brothers, Mike (Stephanie) of Kelowna, BC and Stanley of Sarnia, Ont.; four grandchildren, Matthew (Christine), Stacy and Peter all from Quispamsis, Alexandria of Chalk River, Ont.; two great-granddaughters, Terri and Madison of Quispamsis; and several nieces and nephews. Peter was predeceased by one son, Perry Bruce, and two brothers, Andrew and Ignace. The family will receive relatives and friends at Northumberland Funeral Home on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. The members of the Prince Charles Chapter #27 of the order of the Eastern Star are asked to meet at the funeral home on Monday evening at 6:30 for a service and following their service members of the Miramichi Masonic Lodge #18 F & AM are asked to meet at 6:45 for a Masonic Service. The Funeral Service will be held from Northumberland Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at 2 PM with Rev. Richard Steeves officiating. Burial will be later in the spring. As expression of sympathy donations may be made to Heart & Stroke Foundation; NB Diabetes Association or to a memorial of ones choice would be appreciated by the family.
