Merton Hilyard PATTERSON

PATTERSON, MERTON HILYARD - Following a lengthy illness, with his family and Rev. Mary Ann at his side, the death of Mr. Merton Hilyard Patterson of L'Etang, NB, husband of Esther (Matheson) Patterson, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB on Tuesday, February 22, 2005. Born in L'Etang, NB on July 28, 1926, he was a son of the late Kenneth and Freda (Cunningham) Patterson. He had been employed at the St. George Mill and later with Lake Utopia Paper having over 20 years service, retiring in 1992. In addition to his work at the mill, Merton loved woodworking and furniture making. Besides his wife, Merton is survived by one son, Lance Patterson (Sandra) of L'Etang; daughter, Melody Hanley (Bruce) of L'Etang; step-son, Allen Curran (Angela) of Stillwater; step-daughter, Gloria Stewart (Jeff Markey) of Back Bay; one brother, Vance (Germaine) of Quebec and a daughter-in-law, Rose Patterson of L'Etang; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Merton was pre-deceased by his first wife, Florence (Taylor) Patterson; a daughter, Michelle and a son, Wayne. Resting at St. Mark's Anglican Church, St. George, from where the service will be held at 2 pm, Friday February 25th, with Rev. Mary Ann Langmaid officiating. Visiting hours at the church from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
