MacEACHERN (Morgan) Alice Margaret "Lal" Halifax and Ottawa, passed away February 15, 2005, in the Palliative Care Unit of the VG Site, QEII, with her family by her side. Born and raised in Parkes, Australia, she was a daughter of the late Elizabeth Toohey and George Morgan. Alice came to Canada in 1955 and lived in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax, following her husband and family in his careers in journalism and politics. She was a determined advocate of educational rights for persons with disabilities and was a main impetus in setting up the first preschool nursery in Ontario for children with developmental challenges, to ensure they were ready for regular school attendance when they reached age five. Surviving are her husband of 49 years, William "Bill"; daughters Catriona, Donna (late John Legge), Rebecca (Donna K.), all of Halifax; sons, Andrew, Halifax and Ross and daughter-in-law Diane, as well as much-loved grandchildren Connor and Maggie, in Brooklin, Ont.; sister, Nancy, Singleton, brother, Dennis, The Entrance, as well as a large extended family, all in Australia. She was predeceased by brothers, Edward and Anthony; sister, Molly. Cremation has taken place. Visitation on Friday, February 18 from 4-7 p.m. in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax. Burial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind, Nova Scotia Special Olympics or a charity of choice.
