Hazen Leonard Craft March 20, 1922 - February 28, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Castle Funeral Home-Fallsview Chapel CRAFT, HAZEN - It is with great sadness, we announce the sudden passing of Hazen Leonard Craft, who spent the last few years in nursing home; formerly of East Saint John, NB, which occurred on Monday, February, 28th, 2005, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Son of the late William Leonard Craft and the late Grace Aronetta (Scribner) Craft, Hazen was born at home, Havelock Street, West Saint John, March, 20th, 1922. The family then moved to Station Street (now Walnut) in Fairville. When Hazen's biological mother died in 1926, he and his father moved in with Hazen's paternal grandmother, on North Street, Fairville. In 1928 his father Leonard married Mary E. Clark and it was Mary who brougt Hazen up through youth to adulthood. An injury at age 4, left Hazen with a permanent disability of the left leg, but he persevered and in the mid 30's delivered the Citizen Newspaper in Fairville Plateau and Duck Cove areas. In 1939, he went to work at Horgan's Bakery and learned the trade from Mr. W. J. Horgan and Staff. In the early 40's he moved to McMurray's Bakery, and the next job offer in 1952 took him to the F.W. Woolworth Store Bakery at the head of King Street, Saint John, where he worked 30 years until arthritis forced him into early retirement. For many years, Hazen was an avid harness racing fan, and also enjoyed spending vacations in P.E.I. , Ellsworth, New York and Bar Harbour. He was a member of Red Head United Church. He is survived by his sister Grace E., several cousins, and many good and kind friends, as well as his beloved cat, Tomme. Besides parents Hazen was predeceased by his brother Howard Merritt Craft. Resting at Castle "Fallsview" Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue, West Saint John, NB (506 - 634 - 1701) from where the service will be held in the chapel on Saturday, March, 5th, 2005 at 1:00 pm. Rev. Alvin Westgate officiating.The interment will follow in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 7 - 9 pm and Friday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 pm Friends are welcome to attend a special tribute and prayer service to be held at the funeral home on Friday evening at 6:00 pm.
