Mrs. Vilda Josephine MacNeil April 15, 1910 - March 04, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Sands Funeral Chapel (Nanaimo) MACNEIL, VILDA JOSEPHINE, R.N., P.H.N. Born on the family homestead near Vanguard, Sask. On April 15, 1910, Vilda, the last surviving member of the Gustav Weppler family, died peacefully at Dufferin Place on March 4, 2005 in Nanaimo, BC. Predeceased by her loving husband, John, in 1984, Vilda is lovingly remembered by daughter, Sharon (Tony) Ackerman and grandsons, Wayne and Daryle Ackerman of Kelowna, BC granddaughter, Cynthia (Steven) and great-granddaughter, Daria Oviatt of Washougal, Washington, Ian (Rosemarie) and granddaughter, Janell MacNeil of Nanaimo, BC. Also survived by sisters-in-law, Blanche MacNeil of Langley, BC., Theresa Weppler of Kelowna, BC and six nieces and two nephews of B.C., Alberta and Scotland. Vilda attended Normal School in Moose Jaw, Sask. to become a teacher, received her R.N. training at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Victoria, B.C. and diploma in Public Health from U.B.C. After working as a teacher and nurse in various locations in Canada and the U.S.A., Vilda and John married in 1945 and raised their family in Port Alberni, B.C. where Vilda taught for School District #70 and nursed at West Coast General Hospital. Retiring to Victoria in 1972, John and Vilda had a few years to enjoy together. We love and miss you both. A special thank-you to the loving and caring staff at Dufferin Place who cared for mom. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Queen of Peace Church, 849 Old Esquimalt Road, Victoria at 1210pm on Friday, March 11. Interment to follow at Royal Oak Burial Park.
