Lila Lillian (Spence) Newton PUGWASH, NB - Lila Lillian (Spence) Newton, 94, of East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash, and formelry of Economy, passed away at her residence on March 10, 2005. Born in Springhill, she was a daughter of the late Ruben and Lily (Card) Spence, and she was the widow of the late Churchill Moore Newton. She was a member of Economy United Church; a member of the U.C.W., the Church Choir, a Sunday School Teacher and also a member of the Golden Age Club and Past Noble Grand of the Rebekah Lodge. She was well known in the area as a domestic and care giver for several years. She loved her family, enjoyed quilting, knitting, baking and playing cards. Lila is survived by her daughter, Violet Johnson Perkins of Sackville, NB; sons, Denzil, Dartmouth, Arthur (Eleanor), Berwick, and Gary (Colleen), Truro; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. She was predeceased by her brothers, Arthur, Edward, Fred and Percy; sister, Ada Hopkins; sons-in-law, Bill, Bob; daughter-in-law, Janet. Visitation will be held on Friday from 7 to 9 pm, Funeral Service Saturday at 2:00 pm both in Economy United Church with Rev. Florence Antle-Brison officiating. Interment at a later date in Economy Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Economy United Church or a charity of choice.
