BETTS, SPURGEON THOMAS It is with great sadness that the family, friends, church and community of Spurgeon Thomas Betts mourn his passing on Thursday, March 10, 2005. Throughout his life, Spurgeon served his Lord with faith, patience, love, long suffering and through many acts of kindness to all he met. Even though his capacities were limited near the end of his life, he was knows at the Wilfred G. Bishop Nursing Home as a good natured man who never complained and always had a ready smile for staff, family and friends. He was a true friend, devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, great-grandfather and caring brother and friend. Spurgeon's greatest pleasure was the time he spend with his wife Alta. They enjoyed traveling, antique hunting and adding to their various collections. He enjoyed meeting new people and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He retired from his position as a heavy equipment operator with Avon Coal Company and the New Brunswick Coal Company in 1987. He was an active member of the Full Gospel Pentecostal Church where he served as a Sunday School Teacher, Elder, and Trustee for over 60 years. He is survived by his wife, Alta, one daughter, Bonnie Rae Moore, Saint John, NB; one brother, Marvin (Gretchen Betts, Fredericton, NB; one sister, Mildred McPhee, Windsor, Ont., two granddaughters, Tara Lynn Moore and Cori Lee (Les) McDade, two greatgrandchildren, Heath Conall and Kaelan Andrew McDade; one sister-inlaw, Elizabeth Betts, Saint John, NB, several nieces and nephews, and special friend Brian Marks, He was predeceased by his parents, Ephriam and Mable (Dykeman) Betts; two brothers, Everett and Lawrence, and two sisters, Ina Mason and Marie McConaghy The family will receive visitors at the Minto Funeral Home on Monday, March 14, 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will take place at the Full Gospel Pentecostal Church on Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Kris Austin officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in the Full Gospel Pentecostal Church Cemetery. For those who wish, memorial tributes can be made to the Full Gospel Cemetery, the Parkinson's Society or to the charity of the donor's choice. [Daily Gleaner]
