Jean Linton SPENCE

McEACHEN, JEAN LINTON The death of Jean Linton McEachen (Spence) occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Friday, March 11th, 2005. Born on February 13th, 1919 in Regina, Saskatchewan, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Jean Spence. She attended and graduated from Victoria Public School and from Balfour Technical Collegiate in Secretarial Science. Following high school she was employed by the Government of Saskatchewan, Department of Municipal Affairs. As a teenager she was actively involved in highland dancing and won numerous medals and traveled across North America to attend and compete at Scottish games. It was while working for the Department of Municipal Affairs she met Allan McEachen whom she married in February, 1946 in the First Presbyterian Church. She was the mother of two boys, Murray and Douglas. Jean was active in First Church, being a member of Fellowship Circle of the Women's Federation and later the 55'ers Club. Jean was also a member of Camp Balmoral Sons of Scotland. She was also a regular season ticket holder for Saskatchewan Roughrider games. Jean moved to Fredericton, New Brunswick in 1987 to be with her family. Jean is survived by her two sons, Murray (Carol) of Fredericton, NB and Douglas of Oldenburg, Germany; granddaughters, Colleen Ubdsell (Steve) and Sheena Page (Philip) all of Waasis, NB; great-grandsons, Brendan Ubsdell and Stewart Page both of Waasis, NB; sister-in-law, Gladys McEachen of Regina and several nieces and a nephew. She is predeceased by her father and mother, her step-mother, Elizabeth Spence, her husband, her sister, Agnes McNie and brother, Ronald. There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Fredericton on Thursday, March 17th, 2005 at 2:00 pm. Rev. Doug Blaikie officiating. Another memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Regina at a later date to be determined. For those who wish, memorial tributes made to the Alzheimer's Society would be appreciated.
