AKERLEY, GORDON PERCY The death of Gordon Percy Akerley, of Fredericton, NB, husband of L. Mae (Hutchins) Akerley occurred on March 29, 2005 at his home. Born in Wickham, NB on October 3, 1935, he was the son of the late Percy and Margaret (Mott) Akerley. He was a Forest Fire Operations Officer for the Province of New Brunswick with the Department of Natural Resources, retiring after 42 years of service. Gordon was a scout leader, a first-aid instructor, a sports enthusiast; loved hockey, cross country skiing, fishing and hunting. He was liked by all that knew him. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son Scott Gordon (Meganne) of Victoria, BC; one daughter Melissa Jean (Jarret) Meadows of Fredericton, NB; two brother-in-laws, Bob (Elva) Hutchins of Saint John, NB and Vaughan (Valerie) Hutchins of Newtown, NB; one sister Lois (Ross) Urquhart of Sussex, NB; sister-in-law Dora Hutchins of Summerside, PE; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his brother-in-law Basil Hutchins. There will be no visitation by request. A Funeral Service will take place on Friday, April 1st, 2005 at 2 pm from York Funeral Home's T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB with Rev. Gil MacKenzie officiating. Interment will take place at Newtown Baptist Cemetery, Newtown, New Brunswick. For those who wish, remembrances made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
