Bernard R Smith March 13, 1932 - March 31, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Atlantic Funeral Home (Halifax) SMITH, Bernard R. - After a lengthy illness, Bernard R. Smith, 73, died March 31, 2005, in Bedford. Bernie was born March 13, 1932, and raised in Moser River, the eldest son of the late Bertha and Karl Smith. Bernie retired from London Life Insurance Company in 1991. Starting as a sales representative in Halifax, his career took him to Niagara Falls, Ont.; Moncton, N.B., and finally London, Ont., where, after 35 years, he retired as Senior Vice President, District Sales Division and moved back east to Bedford. Throughout his life, Bernie enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman. Bernie is survived by his loving wife, Earline (Walker); son, Bernard Michael (Christine), North Myrtle Beach, S.C.; sisters, Doris Jewers, Ecum Secum; Norma Lowe, Dartmouth; Muriel Chittick, Sheet Harbour, and brother, Cecil Smith, Dartmouth. Special thanks to Dr. Jason Reynolds, Debbie Larsen, Tina Clarke, Stephanie Fleming and Joyce Partridge for the wonderful care and kindness. Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, April 3, in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax. Memorial service will be held 1 p.m. on Monday, April 4, Rev. James Haughn officiating. Interment will be held in Moser River Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
