BATEMAN, MARY IDA LOUISE (LYON) - age 96 of Glen Haven Manor formerly of 68 North Provost Street New Glasgow passed away Tuesday April5, 2005 in the manor. Born in Hampton, New Brunswick she was a daughter of the late Howard Clarence and Susan Croft (Flewelling) Lyon. Ida was retired from Canada Manpower and had always been very active in her community. Her greatest commitment was with the Canadian Cancer Society, working many hours in the schools, on the Daffodil Campaign, and in the cancer room for which in 1984 and 1990 she was awarded The Canadian Cancer Society Volunteer of the year award from the Province of Nova Scotia. She was also a founding member of the Meals on Wheels Program and was a long standing member of The Professional Women's Business Association. She was a member of Saint Georges Anglican Church where she was greatly involved with the youth of the church and was director of the Junior Choir. She is survived by her son David (Sharleen), Churchville; grandchildren, Doug (Heather) Marriott, Eureka; Colin (Melissa) Marriott, Kentville; great-grandchildren Katie, Shana, Emily, Julia. Special niece Meridith Lyon, Rothesay, NB; great niece and nephew, Nonie Gilland and Gordon Burnett both of Rothesay, NB. She was predeceased by her husband Ralph Bateman and a brother Charles Lyon. Visitation 7-9pm Thursday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home New Glasgow. Funeral service 10 am Friday in Saint Georges Anglican Church, New Glasgow with Rev. Frances Boutilier officiating. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery Clifton, New Brunswick 2pm Saturday with Rev. Bonnie LeBlanc officiating. Family flowers only.
