LEARN, Harry L, of Welland, at the Woolcott Wing of the Welland County General Hospital, on Thursday, March 31, 2005, in his 95th year. Born at Sherkson, Ontario on September 14th, 1910. Predeceased by his wife Isabel (1992), a son , Paul (1967), hi s father and mother, Lvingston A. Learn and Lottie May (Troup), his sisters, Gertrude Day (Harlow), Ruth Case (Harold), Anne Wieser (Eddie) and brothers Arthur and Wilfred. Mr. Learn graduated from Ridgeway High and Vocational School and Robinson Bus iness College. He was employed by Provincial Gas Company as a Field Clerk at Sherskton, Area Manager at Welland and later for Consumers' Gas company as Purchasing Agent, Sales Promotion and latterly as Public Realtions and Industrial Development Repr esentative until his retirement after 46 years. He was a member of the Welland Jaycees and assisted in the formation of the Welland Humane Society. He was active in the Welland Optimist Club as Secretary, President and a Lieutenant Governor of Optimi st International. He assisted in the formation of Junior Achievement of the Niagara Region and was a Charter Director. He was a charter member of the Industrial Development Association of Canada, a member of the American Industrial Development Counci l and upon retirement was granted an honorary life membership in the Economic Developers Council of Ontario. He was a former member and active in five Chambers of Commerce in the Peninsula and a past President and life member of the Welland Club. He was a volunteer at the Welland County General Hospital and was also involved with the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program for many years. In 2004 he was presented with the Senior Achievement Award by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario in recogniti on of his significant contribution to his community. He is survived by his sons Al (Betty), Ed (Bernadee), James (Sylvia) and Ross, grand-daughters Sandra Fitzpatrick (John), Kelly Senchoway (Jim), Janice, Martha Jones (Steve), Jessica and grandsons John (Rosalie), Edward (Lise), Jeffrey (Lidia), William, Paul, Christopher, Joshua (Sarah) and Quinn (Michelle). Also survived by great grandchildren Jess, Devin, Melissa, Ryan, Ashley, Tulah, Troy, Cole, Skye, Haley, Tiana, Ty, Peyton, Sydney, Sophi e, Cassandra and Diti. Friends are invited to visit the family on Monday, April 4th from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday, April 5th from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the H.L. CUDNEY FUNERAL HOME, 241 West Main Street, Welland. The funeral service will be conducted on Wedn esday, April 6th at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 165 Sydney Place, Welland, with Pastor Rene Brochu officiating.
