COATES, Kenneth James M.D., O.B.E., Retired Colonel, R.C.A.M.C. On Wednesday March 16, 2005, peacefully after a long struggle with CVA and pneumonia, at Sunnybrook Veterans K Wing, Toronto, in his 91st year. Ken was a devoted husband to Wilma (Morrison) for over 65 years of marriage, loving father to Lyndi McDonald (George) and Carolyn (McInnes), and a wonderful grandfather to Ryan and Aaryn McInnes. Predeceased by his sister Margaret Gatin (Henry) of Regina, Saskatchewan, and brothers Robert and Leslie of Manitoba. Born in Virden, Manitoba, 1914, Ken attained his medical degree from the University of Manitoba in 1935, joined the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps and served from 1939 to 1945 overseas with the 10th Field Ambulance Corps. After WWII, he continued as a Chief Medical Officer with R.C.A.M.C. in Ontario, Manitoba and Alberta until 1966; then as Staff Physician with the W.C.B. Hospital in Toronto 1966-1976. Ken and Wilma enjoyed many happy years of retirement with their family, traveling, golfing, visiting friends, at their homes in Florida and in Thornhill for 29 years. Many thanks to the physicians, nurses and staff at Sunnybrook and to agency caregivers. A memorial service was held at Sunrise Unionville Sunday, March 20.
