GOURLAY, Ferne Lorraine (b. 1924) Passed away peacefully March 31, 2005, surrounded by her family. Predeceased by her husband James, parents Thomas and Cora, sister Melba and brother Kenneth, Ferne is survived by her sons David (Jan) and Kenneth (Anne), grandchildren Mason, Sarah and Melissa, nephews and nieces and grand-nephews and nieces. Ferne was a public health nurse. She received her training at Saskatoon City Hospital and later worked at Shaughnessy Hospital in Vancouver, where she met her husband James. Once married, they made their home in Ottawa. She resumed her nursing career after raising her family, earning her BSC N and public health certificate at the U of O. Ferne and Jim retired to Victoria and Ferne later moved to Langley where she has lived since. At Ferne's request, there will be no service. An informal gathering of close family and friends will take place from 2 p.m. on Saturday April 8, 2005 at the home of her son David. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Arthritis Society. Published in the Ottawa Citizen on 4/4/2005
