BAIN, Shirley Mae (nee Prangley) Died peacefully at St. Patrick's Home on the 8th of April, 2005 after a 7-year battle with dementia. Shirley was born in Kirkland Lake, Ontario on the 17th of March, 1926, and attended the University of Toronto where she obtained a degree in Dental Nursing. Soon after graduation she moved to the newly developing town of Deep River, Ontario as the Dental Nurse. There she met, and in 1952 married, Alastair (Al) Bain. In 1979 they moved to Ottawa. Shirley will be sorely missed by her husband of nearly 53 years, by her daughter Jody and her husband George of Victoria, by her son Roderick of Ottawa and by her grandsons Jan Michael and Stefan Eric of Victoria. Shirley attended night classes at Carleton University where she earned a degree in Art History. She was an enthusiastic volunteer at the Museum of Civilization and at the National Art Gallery. She was a great gardener and an avid bridge player; she loved visiting foreign lands and painting, classical music, quiet get-togethers with her friends and a small glass of dry sherry. Sincere thanks are extended to the staff and volunteers of St. Patrick's Home for their care and kindness in tending to Shirley over the past 3 years. We feel blessed that she was getting such compassionate care in such a loving atmosphere. Please, no flowers; instead, donations to St. Patrick's Home would be gratefully appreciated. A Memorial Service at St. Patrick's is being arranged. Shirley, you were a joy to be with. God bless you and may you Rest in Peace. Published in the Ottawa Citizen from 4/11/2005 - 4/13/2005
