John "Buddy" Edward Wood July 12, 1928 - April 29, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Atlantic Funeral Home (Dartmouth) WOOD, John Edward "Buddy" - 76, Dartmouth, beloved father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2005, in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born July 12, 1928, in Windsor, Ont., he was the only son of the late John Edward Wood and Francis Pearl Mary Wood (Ferguson). In his early career, John was a Chief Petty Officer in the Royal Canadian Navy. He then began his career as a Millwright in Local 1178, eventually becoming the Business Manager and Financial Secretary of this branch of the union. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Centennial Branch, for 36 years, former member of the Lions Club and Micmac Aquatic Club. He was predeceased by wife, Olive "Ollie" Wood (Hillier); son, Richard, and sister, Violet "Skippy". He is survived by sons, Wayne (Cathy), Bradford (Susan), Bruce (Heather); daughters, Jacqueline "Jackie" (Jerry) Dunphy, Cheryl (George) Robinson, Beverley Lawrence (Joe), and Charlene (Eric) Carlson; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, where visitation will be held on Sunday and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and a Legion service will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday night. Funeral service will be on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Anglican Church of Saint Andrew, Circassion Drive, Dartmouth, Canon David Reid officiating. Interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. Reception to follow in Atlantic Funeral Home Family Reception Centre. Flowers welcome or a donation in John's memory to a charity of one's choice would be appreciated.
