Sadie June (Walsh) Mitton TRURO, NS - Sadie June (Walsh) Mitton, 80, widow of Rev. Arnold Mitton, passed away peacefully Christmas Day, 2005 at Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro. She was predeceased by her parents George Johnston Walsh and Mamie Kathleen Walsh, her brother Huntley and her eldest daughter Brenda MacFarlane. She is survived by four daughters, Arna Kirkman (Jim), Timmons, Ontario, Catherine MacDonald (Truro Junior) widow of Robert MacDonald, Esther Tanner and Deborah Lloyd-Jones, all residing in Truro, as well as one sister, Irene, of Westville and brother, Blois of Country Harbour; 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Her life as a minister's wife and mother was one devoted to her family, her church and her community. She was an active partner with her husband in service to the United Church in many communities, both in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. Some, but not all of her church contributions were as president of local UCW's, CGIT leader, choir member, and sometimes organist. She served in local Home and School associations, Folk Arts councils, and was a founding member of the Cumberland Multicultural Association and the PEI Multicultural Association, representing the latter nationally. She served her country in the Second World War, and was awarded the Order of Canada in 1978 for community service. She was a founding member of the Truro chapter of the Parkinson Foundation and remained active until failing health restricted her participation. Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 28th from 3 to 5pm and from 7 to 9 pm at the Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro. A service to celebrate her life will be held at the Brunswick Street united Church in Truro on Thursday, December 29th at 2pm with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, living plants would be appreciated or a donation to the Parkinson's Society, the Arthritis Society or one of your choice. On-line condolences may be sent to colchestercommunityfh@ns.sympatico.ca [Times & Transcript]
