RULE, Leslie (Les) (Retired Bank of Canada) Veteran WWII Peacefully on December 1st, 2005 at the Perley-Rideau Veteran's Health Care Centre in his 85th year after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. Beloved husband of 62 years of Shirley (nee Stiff) and loving father of Allen (Alison) and Jim (Diana) Maple Ridge, BC. Special Pa to Janis (Cameron), Katie (Jamie), Heather, Meghan, and Alex. Great-grandfather of Fletcher and Marielle. Survived by sisters Muriel (Keith) Wright, Joan (George) Thomson and brother Russell. Predeceased by parents Joan and Leslie and brother Ronald. Leslie served in WWII with the Royal Canadian Engineers. He retired from a career at the Bank of Canada in 1979 after 38 years of service. He was president of the Carleton Heights Veterans Housing Co-operative 1950/52 (Canada's first successful housing co-op). He was a Past Master of Saint Andrew's Masonic Lodge, and a member of St. Marks Anglican Church, serving as a church warden. In 1977 Leslie received in recognition of his service to the community, a medal issued on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the accession of Her Majesty the Queen to the Throne. An avid golfer, Les was an associate member of the Hyland Golf Club. Leslie was a gentleman, hard working, a man of integrity and a loyal friend. He will be missed by his family. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street on Saturday, December 3, 2005 after 10 a.m. until the service in the chapel at 2 p.m. Reception to follow. Special thanks to the staff and volunteers of the Perley-Rideau for the compassionate and excellent care Les received over the years.
