Isabel Armitage ASTLE

ISABEL ASTLE (1911-2005) - Isabel Armitage Astle passed away peacefully with her family around her on December 30, 2005. Isabel was born on June 28, 1911, in Yorkshire, England. She received her Bachelor of Science in horticulture at Swanley College, part of the University of London. She came to America in 1935 to marry William Astle, also of England. They settled in Flushing, New York and spent every summer since 1935 at Cape Spencer near Saint John, where they cut the logs for their cabin on their honeymoon. In addition to their family in New York, they had their "family" in Saint John, the Mitchells, who grew up near their cabin and were the family of the lighthouse keeper for Cape Spencer. Will and Isabel were great naturalists and made many friends in both New York and New Brunswick as members of bird clubs, the Nature Conservancy, Queens Botanical Gardens, the Saint John Naturalist Club, and the New Brunswick Museum. She was well loved by everyone who knew her and she will be dearly missed. She is survived by her four sons: Bill Astle (Karen Wiley), Jim (Betty) Dave (Judy), and Edward (Carol).
