Vivian Mary O'Brien (née Walby) October 08, 1917 - January 04, 2006 Funeral arrangements by Atlantic Funeral Home (Dartmouth) O'BRIEN, Vivian Mary - 88, Dartmouth, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2006. Born in Wheathampstead, England, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Ethel (Harding) Walby. Educated in England, Vivian came to Canada in 1947. She was a nursing sister in the Second World War attached to a Canadian military hospital. She returned to work after the war at Cole Harbour and the Nova Scotia hospitals. She was a servicing sister of the Order of St. John, and was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Auxiliary, Somme Branch 31. She was a happy volunteer with the Home and School Association, Block Parent Association and St. John Ambulance Brigade for many years. She is survived by son, Jerry (Sharon) O'Brien, Nepean, Ont.; daughter, Shelagh (Wilfred) Jack, Dartmouth; brother, John (Pat) Bulger, Walmsley, England; grandson, Terry Jack; three stepgrandsons, Mark (Monica) Jack, Murray (Connie) Jack, Scott (Rose) Jack; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Vivian was predeceased by husband, Gerald T. O'Brien. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 10, in Christ Church, Ochterlony Street, Dartmouth, Archdeacon Paul Smith officiating. A reception will be held at the church following the service. Burial will be in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens.
