Funeral services for longtime Mattice resident Émilienne (née Soucy) Malenfant, 67, of 271 Gagnon St. were held June 23, 2003. She died June 21 at Notre-Dame Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born May 9, 1936 in St-Hubert, Quebec, she came to Lac Ste-Thérèse in 1966 before moving to Mattice. A member of the Association canadienne française de l'Ontario du Grand Nord, Église St-François-Xavier church choir, Filles d'Isabelle de Mattice, Club Bienvenu seniors centre, she was a cook for the Les Scouts camp. She was described as a jovial and generous woman of faith who enjoyed cooking, knitting, and playing with children. She was predeceased by her father Joseph Soucy and a sister Pierrette Soucy Michaud, both of St-Hubert. She leaves her mother Irène Soucy of St-Hubert, her husband Roger Malenfant of Mattice, daughters Fabienne (Serge) Naud of Laval, Que., Claudine (Denis) Brunelle of Mattice and Diane (Ronny Joanis) Malenfant of Hearst, and sons Régis (Joyce), Rino (Janine), Sylvain (Nathalie) and Karl (Lynn), all of Mattice, Mario (Carol) of Hearst, and Gaston (Pamela) of Ste. Anne, Manitoba. Also surviving are her sisters Irène, Aline, Marthe, Yolaine and Yvette, all of St-Hubert, Brigitte of Rivière-du-Loup, and Ghislaine of St-Honoré, Que., and brothers Rodrigue, Roméo, Léonard, Normand and Lévis, all of St-Hubert, and Réjean Soucy of Quebec City, as well as 18 grandchildren and three great grandsons. Rev. René Grandmont directed the service at the Église St-François-Xavier Church. Interment followed at St-François-Xavier Cemetery.
